Let’s Connect:

For some of us, just hearing the word meditate drudges up stressful visions of constricted positions, itchy noses that we can’t scratch, racing thoughts that we have been trying to avoid  and other frustrations.

If this sounds familiar – I get it!

I’m the Queen of impatience and sometimes I know I need to meditate but am too busy spinning out to get to it.

So I decided to modify things so I could tune in and turn up my energetic and intuitive connections but in a more “me friendly” way.

Just like the weight loss coaches say that diets are not the goal, the goal is a healthy lifestyle that works for you, this applies to meditation as well. It is better to be consistent with a modified practice, than to eliminate it all together.

Here are three easy modifications that get great results:

  1. Sitting Quiet Session – Time Out… 1 to 3 minutes

Set the stop watch on your phone for 1 to 3 minutes. And just close your eyes and sit quietly. This is what I call a positive time out. No agenda, no trying to stay centered. Just breath and be for 1 to 3 minutes. This actually disconnects the racing thoughts and gives you a chance to listen for your own inner voice to take center stage.

  1. 100 Breaths –

This is super easy. You can do the sitting quiet session as above, but you just count 100 deep breaths. This is wonderful to do right before bed. It is powerful because the breathing not only clears your mind and reconnects you with your intuitive senses but it also cleanses and energizes your physical body and cells as well.

  1. Focused Walk

I absolutely love this. Each day I go out to the beach for a focused walk. It is different than just walking aimlessly. If there is something I desire I ask a question at the beginning of the walk like, “What is the best eating plan for me to lose 10lbs? And as I walk, I say Best plan for Me? Best plan for me?

The repeating of the same question provides a meditative rhythm and on the way out you keep repeating. On the way back home or to your car you walk in silence, focusing on the ocean waves or rustling trees or colors of things, etc . Nature will always contribute if you ask.

Give it a try! Pick one of the exercises above and put it into practice. Do the same practice for 3 days and be sure to write any thoughts you have in your journal. This will be the beginning of a wonderful relationship with your own inner voice. And that is the key to everything!
